Southgate Drama and Social Group is a not-for-profit amateur dramatics group based at Southgate Methodist Church and Christian Centre in Elland, near Halifax. We perform plays and musicals in the well-equipped theatre space of the Christian Centre. We used to stage pantomimes, then put on our first play in 1979, and have added a musical most years since 2002. Our group is lucky to have a full range of stage facilities, including our own costume and set-building rooms.
We have no subscription fees, and we welcome new members, whether members of the Methodist church or not. We rely on the support of Southgate Methodist Church, their outreach program and of our volunteer members (donations to us and the church's outreach work gratefully accepted, below).
Ours is an inclusive group with a range of experience and ages (though some of our rehearsals can finish a bit late for younger children). Our emphasis is on enjoying ourselves on stage and putting on a good show.
But we're not just looking for actors - we always need people to help backstage, on lighting and sound or costume or props or make-up or front of house or set-building (or occasionally to operate secret sliding panels!). There's plenty to do, so feel free to ask!
Our premises are disabled-friendly, and our leaders are all CRB-checked in line with Southgate Church's Child Protection Policy.
Our next show is Imaginary: The Musical in January 2020
